OPIC (the "Overseas Private Investment Corporation", an American governmental organization) and leading Georgian wine producer "Teliani Valley" are jointly undertaking a USD 15 million project. OPIC is one of America's largest governmental organizations; working under the direct supervision of the United States Congress, it supports the development of private businesses in various countries with American capital. 25% of Teliani Valley belongs to the American "Firebird" fund. Negotiations between OPIC and Teliani Valley regarding the implementation of this project took place over a period of two years. Following the successful completion of these negotiations and the personal meeting of the Georgian and American presidents, a first tranche of USD 5 million was transferred. During the presidents' meeting in the White House's Oval Office, Mr. Obama noted the importance of the fact that OPIC plays an active role in the development of private business in Georgia. This joint project between OPIC and Teliani Valley calls for an investment of USD 15 million, of which USD 8 million will be lent by OPIC as a long-term loan and USD 7 million will be invested by the Georgian wine producer themselves. This investment will support the export of Georgian wine, the creation of additional products, the development of wine tourism and the revival of the wine-making sector in general. Teliani Valley, Georgia's leading wine-maker, distributes different products to 25 countries – including to the United States of America.

Teliani Valley has been awarded a Best in Show medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2020
