"Teliani Valley" wines presented at "Decanter 2019" received great reviews and won platinum, silver and bronze medals!
The 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards, the world’s largest wine competition, sampled and judged close to 17,000 wines, entered from 57 different countries. The scale of this event emphasises the global appeal and highlights the prestige attached to receiving a coveted Decanter Medal. During the weeklong event, over 280 of the world’s top wine experts tasted and debated the merits of each bottle entered. Only a total of 50 (a mere 0.3% of all wines entered) were awarded the highly sought-after accolade of “Best in Show”.
Glekhuri Kisi Qvevri 2017 stood out achieving the “Best in Show” Award with points 97 for this particular wine! It is the highest recognition for DWWA Tasting System and only 50 wines received this medal. Teliani Valley is the only one in Georgia and in the group of Caucasus Region and Eurasia. This is a huge success for the whole Georgia.
Tasting notes by Decanter.com:
“The first Georgian qvevri wine to make an appearance in our Best In Show selection is based on the Kisi variety, and is made in Georgia's leading region of Kakheti. Its deep amber colour tells you immediately that this has had extensive skin contact - as does its extraordinary aromatic profile of apples stored in an attic, of roses hung up to dry, of the straw in which cheese has been aged, of cheese curds themselves, of quince paste and of exotic mushrooms. After that, you are expecting something unique, and you won't be disappointed: this is textured and full, resonant and expressive with those aromatic allusions, yet, significantly, spotlessly clear and precise too. It has fresher acidity than many Kakheti examples, and would accompany food superbly. One last flavour note to look out for is particularly significant at table: its mouthwatering umami. Drink 2019-2022 “
