and a whole bounty of inspiration to top it all off, it is no accident that every Georgian is, at heart,
a winemaker.
Our beautiful land is considered to be the birthplace of wine. The earliest
chemically confirmed wine residue was found in early Neolithic sites in Georgia in a wine jar called
Qvevri dating back to 6,000-5,800 BC.

Qvevri is an egg-shaped vessel used for fermentation, ageing and storage of traditional Georgian wine.

The technique of the traditional method of winemaking varies from region to region. For example, In Kakheti, during wine production, they add the total amount of must into Qvevri, while in Imereti, they only use part of it.

In 2013 UNESCO inscribed the ancient Georgian traditional Qvevri winemaking method on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
